Basic Academy: Core Test Automation
This track focuses on Model-Based Test Automation (MBTA) concepts, setting up structured test cases, handling dynamic values, and mastering essential controls without writing script code.
Course Outline
- 1. Overview of Tosca & Workspace Architecture
Model-Based Automation Concept: Replacing fragile code-based scripts with maintainable object models.
Tosca Commander Navigation: Hands-on experience with key sections (Modules, TestCases, Execution Lists, Requirements).
Workspace Management: Understanding Single-User vs. Multi-User repository environments. - 2. Module Creation & Test Case Building
Tosca XScan: Scanning Web and Desktop interfaces to capture UI controls accurately.
TestCase Construction: Combining Modules into structured TestCases and executing step-by-step logic (TestSteps).
Verifications & Checkpoints: Applying validation steps to verify application states and data accuracy. - 3. Action Modes
Control Steering Modes: Driving test execution flow using appropriate modes:
Input: Entering data, clicking elements, and making selections.
Verify: Validating element properties, text content, and control states.
WaitOn: Handling dynamic synchronization and page load delays.
Select: Selecting specific UI nodes or sub-elements.
Buffer: Storing dynamic runtime data into variables for downstream steps. - 4. Table Steering
Table Navigation: Targeting specific rows ($last, $first, relative indexing) and columns.
Cell Content Retrieval: Searching and extracting dynamic cell values based on row/column criteria.
Dynamic Tables: Steering tables with changing row counts, pagination, and dynamic headers. - 5. Dynamic Expressions & Date Handling
Dynamic Dates: Generating dynamic timestamps using expressions like {DATE} and {MATH} (e.g., {DATE}[+5d][yyyy-MM-dd]).
Random Values & Buffers: Utilizing {RANDOMTEXT}, {RANDOMNUM}, and stored buffer references ({B[...]}) for variable test inputs.
