Course Description
This SoapUI training course is developed by highly skilled automation engineers with extensive experience in API and continuous testing. The course will help you develop the essential skills and technical knowledge needed to leverage SoapUI for functional, data-driven, and end-to-end API testing. Through hands-on exercises, you will gain practical expertise to advance into modern QA automation roles across varying software verticals.
Basic Academy (Core API & Test Automation)
This track focuses on API testing fundamentals, mastering protocol mechanics, navigating the SoapUI interface, building structured test suites, and setting up reliable assertions without complex scripting.
Course Outline
- 1. Overview of APIs & SoapUI Architecture
REST vs. SOAP Services: Understanding protocol differences, endpoints, HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE), and payload structures (JSON/XML).
Workspace & Interface: Navigating SoapUI GUI, workspace setup, and project configuration.
Service Definition Imports: Creating projects from scratch or importing via Swagger / OpenAPI specs and WSDL files. - 2. Test Suite Creation & Hierarchy
Project Structure: Organizing tests using the core hierarchy: Project → TestSuite → TestCase → TestStep.
Request Step Configuration: Setting up HTTP headers, parameters, query strings, and payload templates.
Negative Test Cases: Designing test scenarios for edge cases, missing parameters, and boundary conditions. - 3. Action Modes & Validations (Assertions)
Response Validation: Verifying HTTP status codes, headers, and execution timings.
Targeted Content Checks: Using Contains, Not Contains, JSONPath, and XPath assertions to validate dynamic payload data.
Status Code Mapping: Validating success (2xx), client error (4xx), and server error (5xx) behaviors. - 4. Table & Payload Steering
JSON/XML Navigation: Steering deeply nested response elements and arrays using JSONPath/XPath queries.
Array Indexing & Filtering: Targeting specific array items (e.g., first, last, or matching criteria) within API responses.
Dynamic Structural Validation: Verifying payload schemas and element presence across variable responses. - 5. Dynamic Expressions & Properties
Property Levels & Scoping: Working with Global, Project, TestSuite, TestCase, and TestStep properties.
Property Expansion: Parameterizing endpoints, headers, and request bodies using ${#Level#PropertyName} syntax.
Dynamic Values & Buffers: Generating dynamic mock inputs and passing runtime values between request steps.
